Before entering the full-time ministry as an evangelist in the late 1960s, he attended Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN, and Louisiana College in Pineville, LA. Following six years of itinerant preaching (1969-1975), during which he married Mickey Lumpkin in 1972, he and his wife relocated to Plano, Texas, and began the process of planting a church in the Dallas metroplex. They served as pastors at Abundant Life Church from 1976 to 1981, during which time the congregation grew from 30 to over 400 members. In 1981, the Manguns returned to Alexandria, Louisiana, where he and his father became co-pastor. He is now the Senior Pastor of the Alexandria Pentecostals.
